Researching Cloth Diapers

I know it's still early in the pregnancy, and I don't plan on buying anything for the baby anytime soon, but I have thought a lot about cloth diapering.  There is an overwhelming amount of information on the Internet, and I'm not sure where to begin!  From another blog I have followed, I found this website very useful: Green Mountain Diapers.

GMD seems to have packages for those new to cloth diapering, and the diapers are ALL COTTON.  I have read a lot about wool, and how it holds smell and often has to be stripped, whereas cotton usually does not.  Cotton does not seem to have this problem, but maybe cotton leaks more??  No idea, I have a lot to learn over the next 8 months.

I also need to convince my husband that cloth diapering is the way to go.  Not only is it good for the environment, but from everything I read, it is much better for the baby.  Cotton is more breathable and there aren't all those chemicals (like petroleum) like there are in disposables.  This isn't to say that we wouldn't need disposables every once in a while, but my plan is to use cloth diapers 95% of the time!

If anyone has suggestions or other websites with useful information, please share!

  3. For convincing Aj
    1. I believe all of my children were easy to potty train because they wore cloth diapers. They were all potty trained before they were 1 year old. The cloth diaper allows the little one to feel the wetness. Starts off warm, but gets cold. Uncomfortable. Now, I had to stay on my toes, changing cloth diapers. You can't let a little one stay in cloth diapers. When they realized that they could pee in a potty, they loved it. It was very quick. The child transitions from cloth to panties or underwear very easily. Before they are one years old. Can't beat that.
    2. Less expensive.
    3. When a little one has diarehea, Pampers and like do not absorb it very well. Cloth diapers absorb. Again, less expensive. Your kid gets a case of the runs, you will go through a case of diapers.
    4. Though there are times when you will need to use disposable diapers, the cloth diapers are more convenient if you have a washer and dyer.
    5. Better for the environment.
    6. Great work rags when no longer used as diapers and being 100% cotton, great for waxing stuff.
    7. Can be used for a burping cloth.
    8. And now a days, they make the diapers pre-folded and velcro. I had to fold a diaper cloth the size of a bath towel back in the day. I had to use two diaper pins and pin a squirming baby.
    7. If your little one has allergies, you can wash the cloth diapers in baking soda and vinegar (sometimes bleach with a double rinse).
